V&S Pharmaceuticals sponsor Hillview Renegades

The Hillview Renegades team competing in the pilot version of the Republic Bank Ross Cup has been sponsored by Rite-Aid Muscle Rub. Distributor of Muscle Rub – V&S Pharmaceuticals has also made free products available to all teams participating in the tournament.

V&S Pharmaceuticals via their Rite-Aid Muscle Rub brand was one of the first sponsors to commit to the cricket team which was formed only three months ago and consists of alumni of Hillview College.

“It wasn’t hard to convince V&S Pharmaceuticals to chip in for the sponsorship of the Hillview Renegades cricket team as the entire management team were affiliated with Hillview College in some way or the other. We were eager to be included in such an exciting venture as well as giving back to the Hillview community in some way. It’s a great way to keep the Hillview community active as well as creating camaraderie among the Alumni of various year groups,” said Viraj Persad, Operations Manager and Marketing Co-Ordinator of V&S Pharmaceuticals.

Persad who is also a past student of Hillview College stressed that the commitment to social work and community development matched the ethos of V&S Pharmaceuticals, making the partnership an easy fit. Members from the Hillview Renegades team were instrumental in volunteering with V&S Pharmaceuticals as part of their relief effort for the recent flooding in Trinidad and Tobago.

“It ties in very well knowing that we both are trying to give back and make a difference in our communities. We may not be working toward the same objective at times but can always lend a helping hand to one another if needed,” Persad explained.

Developing grassroots cricket and increasing participation in the sport is an important objective of the Republic Bank Ross Cup. “One of the objectives the team communicated to us was participation for all. The Renegades team has a strong commitment towards growing grassroots cricket irregardless of age, gender or skill level as part of their tournament mandate. I have not played cricket in over 10-years and it was wonderful to actually get the opportunity to play again and it really was fun.”

“I’m glad that I got the opportunity to be a part of the team both on and off the pitch. It’s never a dull moment when I go out there in my Maroon and Gold uniform regardless of if I play or not. The way I see it, I get the best of both worlds. I can cricket either enjoy playing a great game of cricket or enjoy watching a great game of cricket with great food, drinks, friends and music all around. I’m very proud to be Hillview and to be a part of the team.”

He noted that the tournament has significant room for growth and can turn into something special once nurtured properly. “I was very pleased with the turn out this year and I believe that it has great potential for growth. The Republic Bank Ross Cup is a great way for non-professional players to come out and show their skills but more importantly to have fun. And even off the pitch, there are the lovely supporters, some of who display their great cooking skills and are always willing to assist in any way necessary. At the Ross Cup there’s always great action, great food and great friends. It’s always a great time” Persad stated.
